LIFE is the sole European funding programme that exclusively funds environmental impact and climate action. The programme encompasses 4 sub-programmes:
- Circular Economy and Quality of Life
- Climate Change Mitigation and Adaptation
- Nature and Biodiversity
- Clean Energy Transition
Except for the Clean Energy Transition sub-programme, all other sub-programmes are bottom-up and fund projects that drive environmental impact and are aligned with EU policy.
LIFE has a pluriannual work programme funded by CINEA (European Climate, Infrastructure and Environment Executive Agency) and offers 6 different grant types, the most common of which are Standard Action Projects (SAPs).
Requirements
LIFE SAPs funds:
- Development and demonstration of innovative and best practice solutions that drive environmental impact.
- Single-entity or consortium projects, comprised of any public or private entity type (SMEs, large companies, NGOs, municipalities, etc).
- Typically funds 60% of costs and has a project duration of up to 10 years.
- LIFE is also looking for solutions that are ready to be implemented in close-to-market conditions, at industrial or commercial scale, during the project duration.
